Dr. Varinder Kumar is a board-certified physician specializing in rheumatology in Melbourne, Florida, serving all of Brevard County and surrounding areas.
Dr. Kumar has many years of vast experience treating a range of autoimmune conditions. His areas of interest include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, myositis, and other rheumatic diseases of the joints, soft tissue, and connective tissue. Additionally, Dr. Kumar has particular interest and expertise in treating inflammatory arthritis, Sjogren’s disease, Sarcoidosis, and autoimmune conditions involving the lung. He has a special expertise in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in diagnosing and treating various musculoskeletal conditions. Dr. Kumar has a passion for teaching, and has received recognition and awards for his teaching. He likes to diagnose complex medical cases. He has experience in clinical research and published in peer reviewed journals.
About Dr. Varinder Kumar, MD, FACP, FACR, RhMSUS
Dr. Kumar has held faculty positions both in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine at University of Connecticut and Vermont College of Medicine. Prior to moving to Florida, he practiced rheumatology at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, CT. He has also served as an academic Hospitalist at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, CT and St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT.
He earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Science in New Delhi, India, where he also completed a clinical internship and a year of general surgery. Dr. Kumar finished a fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, CT and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Dr. Kumar is board-certified in rheumatology, board-certified in hospice and palliative medicine, and board certified in internal medicine. He is also certified in rheumatology musculoskeletal ultrasound. He is a member of the Ultrasound School of North American Rheumatologists, American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, American College of Rheumatology, American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the Society of Hospital Medicine. He is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and a Fellow in the American College of Rheumatology.
